Unification Statement

Published Sun 20 Aug 2023

Saturday the 19 August was a historic day for athletics in the ACT and surrounding region of NSW. At two Special General Meetings the voting members of Little Athletics ACT and Athletics ACT voted overwhelmingly to unify the two organisations.

Yesterday’s vote is the culmination of a project commenced in late 2018, bringing to life our vision of a united sport.

“Saturday was a momentous day for athletics in the ACT and surrounding regions of NSW. It wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless efforts of our staff, volunteers, and our directors both former and current. This is of course not the end of the journey rather, an important stepping stone and there is still a lot of work yet to do. Using the new Capital Athletics entity as a platform, I am committed and looking forward to realising our goals of growing the sport of athletics and providing a united whole of life pathway” said Chief Executive Glen Taylor.

The transition to Capital Athletics commences today, over the coming days and weeks the directors, staff and volunteers will be completing the task of bringing the two organisations together.

Once the transition is complete, using Capital Athletics as the platform we will work towards realising our vision to be the foundation and lifelong sport of choice for people in the ACT and surrounding region.
